CARS THAT HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED BY 2027

CARS THAT HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED BY 2027

The car world changed fast in the 2020s stricter emissions rules, electrification plans, and shifting customer demand forced a number of famous nameplates off the showroom floor. Below are ten headline cars that were discontinued by 2027, why they were ended, their headline specs and price, and what if anything replaced them.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale (2019–2024)

Why it was discontinued: Ferrari wound down the SF90 as the company consolidated its hybrid/higher-performance flagship strategy and prepared a new halo. The SF90 served as Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid flagship and its technology demonstrator; Ferrari has since moved its top-role to a new model line.
Key specs: Mid-engine plug-in hybrid; combined output ~986–1,000+ hp (depending on tune historically reported by Ferrari media), blistering launches (sub-2.5s 0–100 km/h in some trims), advanced torque-vectoring, AWD hybrid layout.
Starting price (when new): ~$500k+ (varied by market and options).
Successor / what’s next: Ferrari introduced a new flagship (the 849 Testarossa / “849” line) as the SF90’s successor concept in Ferrari’s 2025–2026 roadmap; the 849 Testarossa carries the next-generation hybrid flagship role.

Audi R8 (2006–2024)

Why it was discontinued: Audi ended the R8 as part of product rationalisation and an electrification rethink; the high-revving V10 era at Audi wrapped up amid rising costs and emissions pressure. Audi has said there’s no direct, immediate successor in the same format, though electrified/next-gen concepts and the brand’s move toward EVs keep a future supercar possibility open.
Key specs (last gen): Mid-engine 5.2L V10, 562–602 hp depending on trim, quattro AWD, ~3.1 s 0–60 mph (depending on spec).
Starting price (last new): roughly $160k–$200k (depends on trim and region).
Successor / what’s next: No direct replacement announced; Audi is focusing on electrification and has talked about future premium EV performance cars rather than a straight R8 relaunch immediately.

Lamborghini Aventador (2011–2022)

Why it was discontinued: The Aventador’s production ended once Lamborghini moved to a hybrid V12 flagship strategy — the age of pure, naturally aspirated V12s as regular production models closed with the Aventador’s last limited editions.
Key specs (Ultimae / final variants): 6.5L Naturally Aspirated V12 | ~769 hp (Ultimae) | 0-100 km/h in 2.8s
Starting price (last editions): final limited editions/Ultimae were priced well into seven figures depending on options and one-off commissions.
Successor / what’s next: The Aventador’s role Ferrari-beating V12 halo has been taken by Lamborghini’s hybrid V12 Revuelto family (V12 + hybrid systems) as Lamborghini shifts its top-end to electrified V12s.

Lamborghini Huracán (2014–2024)

Why it was discontinued: Lamborghini retired the long-running Huracán as it reorganised its super sports range to include HPEV (high-performance electrified vehicles). The Huracán era closed as Lamborghini introduced new hybrid models and the next V8 hybrid mid-engine models.
Key specs (final Huracán EVO/Performante variants): 5.2L naturally aspirated V10, ~610–640 hp depending on variant, 0–100 km/h in ~3.0 s, rear- or AWD setups.
Starting price (last new): typically in the $200k–$300k range, depending on spec and market.
Successor / what’s next: Lamborghini’s Huracán successor is the new Temerario (a twin-turbo V8 + hybrid HPEV model), marking Lamborghini’s shift from NA V10s to electrified V8 performance.

Ferrari 812 GTS (2019–2024)

Why it was discontinued: Ferrari wound down the 812 Superfast / GTS V12 series as it prepared its next V12 architecture and new V12/hybrid plans. Ferrari’s V12 range was being reorganised to new technical rules and emotional packaging.
Key specs (812 GTS): 6.5L Naturally Aspirated V12 | 789 hp | Top Speed > 340 km/h | ~0–62 mph in ~2.9–3.0 s.
Starting price (last new): around $330k+ for the GTS variants (market dependent).
Successor / what’s next: Ferrari is evolving its V12 line with new flagship directions and limited Competizione derivatives, while the brand also pushes hybrid tech into other tiers — official successor naming has been folded into Ferrari’s 2025+ roadmap.

Chevrolet Camaro (Sixth gen, 2016–2024)

Why it was discontinued: GM ended the Camaro after the 2024 model year as the company restructures for EVs and reallocates volume programs; sales trends and emissions rules contributed to the decision. GM has however left the door open to a future Camaro-name return in a different form.
Key specs (last gen 6.2 V8 SS / ZL1): 6.2L Supercharged V8 (ZL1) | 650 hp | 650 lb-ft Torque | 0–60 mph from ~3.5s in ZL1.
Starting price (last new): base models earlier in range; performance trims (SS/ZL1) ran $70k–$80k+ depending on spec final limited editions more.
Successor / what’s next: No immediate production successor announced; GM has hinted the Camaro name could return in future possibly as an electrified model or special project down the line.

Lamborghini Urus S & Performante (2022–2025)

Why they were discontinued: Lamborghini is refreshing the Urus line as it transitions to electrified SUVs and updated platforms; certain trims (S & Performante variants) are replaced by newer Urus SE PHEV and special editions as Lamborghini moves to hybrid architecture across the range.
Key specs (Urus Performante): 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 | ~657 hp | 0-100 km/h in ~3.3s | 0–100 km/h in ~3.3–3.4 s depending on spec.
Starting price (last new): Urus Performante and S trim pricing varies by market; expect $300k+ for higher trims and Performante options.
Successor / what’s next: Lamborghini rolled out the Urus SE (plug-in hybrid) as the brand’s electrified Urus direction — future Urus family members will follow the hybrid path.

Nissan GT-R (R35) (2007–2025

Why it was discontinued: The long-running R35 reached the end of its lifecycle after an 18-year run. Evolving emissions rules, platform age and Nissan’s reorganisation toward next-gen electrified performance determined the end of the R35 run. Nissan has signalled next-generation plans.
Key specs (R35 Nismo / final variants): 3.8L Twin-Turbo V6 | ~600 hp (NISMO) | Advanced AWD.
Starting price (last new): dependent on final edition and market; high-spec Nismo/Final Edition examples priced in the higher performance coupe bracket (~$200k+ in some markets once special options applied).
Successor / what’s next: Nissan has indicated a next-generation GT-R is in development (new platform and electrified tech expected) but timelines and full specs were kept under wraps.

Bugatti Chiron (2016–2024)

Why it was discontinued: Bugatti concluded the Chiron era with a final run (L’Ultime) and officially ended production in 2024 the iconic W-16 chapter closed as Bugatti moves to new architectures and reduced-displacement hybrid solutions under new ownership/partnership structures.
Key specs (Chiron series): 8.0L quad-turbo W16 | ~1,500+ PS in some special versions, top speeds in excess of 300 mph for the Super Sport variants, ultra-luxury bespoke craftsmanship.
Starting price (last new): multi-million dollars; final special editions carried premium custom pricing well above the base Chiron.
Successor / what’s next: Bugatti has publicised that the W-16 era is over and a new, smaller-displacement (and electrified/hybrid) flagship will follow in the mid-2020s under Bugatti-Rimac collaboration plans.

BMW M8 Competition Coupé (2019–2025)

Why it was discontinued: BMW signalled the end of the M8 Coupe as the market shifts and BMW consolidates its M lineup; dealer bulletins indicated 2025 as the final coupe model year with orders closed. BMW has not planned a direct one-to-one M8 Coupe successor in the same configuration.
Key specs (M8 Competition): 4.4L twin-turbo V8, ~617 hp, 0–60 mph ~3.0 s, luxurious GT ergonomics with M performance tuning.
Starting price (last new): M8 Competition pricing was typically in the $140k+ territory depending on options.
Successor / what’s next: BMW isn’t planning a direct M8 coupe replacement as of the latest dealer bulletin; future performance products likely shift toward electrified M models.

What ties these endings together

  • Electrification & emissions

  • Range and product consolidation

  • Collectors & few-offs

The End of an Era But Not the End of the Story

As we wave goodbye to these legends, it’s clear they’re not just being discontinued they’re evolving. Every departure leaves behind a legacy: the R8 proved a V10 could be an everyday supercar, the Aventador defined what a modern V12 should feel like, and the GT-R showed the world how far Japanese engineering could push performance. Their successors will carry the torch in new directions  often electrified, sometimes hybrid, but always faster, sharper, and more advanced.

In the end, these cars won’t vanish from memory. They’ll live on in garages, in collector circles, in car culture and, let’s be honest, this was the best era of the automotive industry.
